    October 5, 2017 by Sarah

Come and spend a relaxing day learning how to do basic quilting and applique by hand. We’ll be using lots of recycled fabrics and, depending on how quick you are with a needle, you could make and take home some washable coasters, a mobile phone pouch or an iPad cover. Dates: 14th and 18th October from 10am to 4pm. Venues: in the workshop space at Olive’s Nest on Scarcroft Rd on 14th Oct, and in the upstairs workroom at Me & Mrs Fisher (cafe) on Lord Mayor’s Walk – a delicious lunch and refreshments included in the day. Email me for more details: sarah@winifredtaylor.co.uk

As part of the 50+ Festival, I’m running a free introductory session about Keepsake Art on Sat 30th September. There’ll be other sessions there, too, following on from mine giving you information about the work of humanist celebrants, soul midwives, sorting out your home and talking about bereavement. 7. River Art Market, York

    August 2, 2016 by Sarah

The River Art Market is back on 13th August – the earlier markets in June and July proved really popular with residents and visitors alike. What could be more pleasurable than wandering along the riverside looking at beautiful creations?

  8. Exhibition at The Atrium, Leeds

    May 16, 2016 by Sarah

I’m a member of the textile group Diverse Threads and we currently have an exhibition on display in Leeds entitled ‘Harmony’. This is at The Atrium in the Bexley Wing of St James’s Hospital, Leeds until 29th July. If you’re in the vicinity, do call in and have a look. The inspiration for my four pieces has come from children’s nursery rhymes. A proportion of all sales is donated towards the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.

  9. a break from stitching

    March 8, 2015 by Sarah

This weekend has been great fun working on willow lanterns as part of a community project in Kirklees. After showing them the basics, families came up with their own designs – you can see the outline of Mickey Mouse on the side of this lantern! Once they’ve been covered in tissue, and a candle inserted, they’ll be lit for a big event – ‘Lanternland’ – on 19th March at Hightown Infant & Junior School.

  10. Exhibition at York Hospital

    January 13, 2015 by Sarah

From today until early April, textile group Diverse Threads have an exhibition at York Hospital. I have a piece included which is called ‘Matryoshka’ and is inspired by Russian dolls and Russian folk art – see a section of it in the photo below. I have used a mix of vintage and recycled fabrics to create the design and used both hand and machine stitching.
