I’m a member of York Artworkers’ Association and this year is the 25th Anniversary. To celebrate we have an exhibition of members’ work at Pyramid Gallery on Stonegate. Up until 29th January, there’s a great range of work on display from glass artists, painters, ceramicists, jewellers etc. The photo below has details from one of my four pieces on display, inspired by ‘Little Boy Blue’.

This Saturday sees the opening of the 1st Anniversary exhibition by the Open Art Collective entitled ‘Organic Mechanic’. Inspired by a suggestion put forward by someone in the community – ‘robots!’ – members of the collective have been beavering away on their latest pieces of art. Come along to the Golden Ball to see the exhibition in the Garden Room. I have one piece in the exhibition which is inspired by the work of the Russian avant-garde artists of the 1920s. I can’t believe that it is already one year ago that the collective was first formed!

Next week is the last chance to view the Diverse Threads exhibition entitled ‘Water’s Edge’ at The Station Gallery in Richmond, North Yorkshire. The final day for viewing is Thursday 17th July before all our lovely pieces are taken down on the Friday. For opening times, visit The Station’s website: Richmond Station. To view our group’s website, visit Diverse Threads. The picture shows a detail from my 3D piece entitled ‘Courtship at Station Bridge, Richmond’ inspired by Edward Lear’s poem ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’.

I’m part of the mixed media group ‘Diverse Threads’ and our exhibition entitled ‘Water’s Edge’ comes to The Station Gallery in Richmond from 21st June to 17th July 2014. Come and view it during the day or evening when The Station is open. I plan to exhibit a piece inspired by Edward Lear’s poem ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ and also my re-worked piece entitled ‘Workaday blues’ inspired by Japanese boro work.

I’ve been working on a piece inspired by Japanese boro textiles. Using recycled fabrics and threads, I’ve rusted them first and then dyed them in indigo. I’ve then stitched into the marks and stains using a variety of threads.

Yesterday we had the Preview for Decora’s first textile art exhibition! From Monday 4th to Saturday 30th November 2013 our work is on display at Otley Courthouse in West Yorkshire. Decora, based in North Yorkshire, are showcasing the varied textile art work of its 12 members. Opening hours are those of the venue: Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm www.otleycourthouse.org.uk
I entered a trio of new pieces inspired by woodland animals which I have been working on for some time. The picture shows one of the pieces in progress – like the ‘Enclosure’ piece on display in the pub (see below), the image has been created using recycled paper, fabric and thread and has a 3D feel to it.

Last Thursday there was a Preview of an exhibition by the Open Art Surgery collective. This is a group of local artists – of which I’m one – and we responded to the theme of ‘Your Place in Space’. The exhibition is in the Garden Room at the Golden Ball pub in Bishophill, York and runs for 6 weeks www.goldenballyork.co.uk
I have one piece in the exhibition entitled ‘Enclosure’ which is inspired by nests and hibernation. This was a new venture for me to try and create a 3D piece in a box frame using recycled fabric, paper and thread.
