  7. School workshops – folk tales

    July 12, 2014 by Sarah

June has been crazily busy with a series of workshops in schools as part of the ‘Eastern European folk tales’ project in and around Bishop Auckland. The project has focused on folk tales from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania. As the visual artist for the project, I worked in 14 schools as well as running a series of mini workshops for over 500 pupils during a Sharing Day! In school, the Year 3/4 pupils were able to spend the morning trying out different printing techniques; and in the afternoon, we did some stitching. The children learnt about the culture, language and use of colour and were able to create their own pages for a book. They used the lino, string print and block prints I created based on traditional folk motifs linked to the stories. It was a lot of fun and the children really enjoyed themselves by getting paint everywhere! E. European folk art

  9. Craft fair and open UFO meeting!

    March 6, 2014 by Sarah

This Saturday 8th March, 10am – 4pm, I’m at a craft fair in York town centre. It’s in a Pop-Up Space which has appeared for the month and has some great art work on display. It’s on Little Stonegate in between the back entrances to Brown’s and Laura Ashley. After the fair there’s the chance to dust off the cobwebs from all those incomplete craft projects you started with the best of intentions! Yes, the Golden Ball’s very own UFO (UnFinished Object) craft group are having an open meeting for anyone to pop along to. It’s in the Pop-Up Space from 4.30 – 6.30pm.

  10. Latest exhibition piece

    February 20, 2014 by Sarah

I’ve been working on a piece inspired by Japanese boro textiles. Using recycled fabrics and threads, I’ve rusted them first and then dyed them in indigo. I’ve then stitched into the marks and stains using a variety of threads.

This is part of the new exhibition by the Open Art Collective entitled ‘Continuum’ at the Golden Ball pub in York – the Preview is this evening.
