Today has been most enjoyable: I delivered a talk on Folk Art to Harrogate Embroiderers’ Guild. A lovely group of people with some good questions that kept me on my toes! Below is a photo showing detail from one of my Russian folk art pieces.

Busy, busy, busy! For the past couple of months I’ve been making lots of lovely things for a Christmas Chalet outside the Judge’s Lodgings on Lendal in York: on Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th, Thursday 17th & Friday 18th December. Come and feast your eyes on textile art pictures, cards, gifts and homeware items! There will be several artisan stalls selling their wares, organised by Britain Does Vintage.

This week several pieces of my work are in an exhibition at Gracious Street Methodist Church as part of Knaresborough’s visual arts festival, FEVA. On until the end of the day on Saturday 22nd August, you can see a range of work by members of the textile group Decora everyday from 10am to 4pm. One of my pieces from a collection inspired by Russian and Eastern European folk art, ‘Fruitful Offerings’, is shown below.

This Sunday 14th December I’ll be at the ‘Made Locally With Love‘ Fair at the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall, 11am to 4.30pm. There’s a £2 entry fee to visit all the stalls and also to take part in some free workshops. I’m running one to make a fun hand-stitched coaster out of recycled fabrics – perfect to put under your steaming cuppa! My workshop is at 11.15am and then again at 2pm – use the link to find out how to make a booking.

This Saturday sees the opening of the 1st Anniversary exhibition by the Open Art Collective entitled ‘Organic Mechanic’. Inspired by a suggestion put forward by someone in the community – ‘robots!’ – members of the collective have been beavering away on their latest pieces of art. Come along to the Golden Ball to see the exhibition in the Garden Room. I have one piece in the exhibition which is inspired by the work of the Russian avant-garde artists of the 1920s. I can’t believe that it is already one year ago that the collective was first formed!
